Adult Programs offered with Class Card. Masterclasses & Visiting Artists. Summer classes. The Hamilton Wenham School of Dance began in 1991 with its creator Katy Brunault. Donna J. Viau is honored and privileged to continue the legacy and high standards set by Katy with becoming the new owner and director beginning July 1st summer 2017. Donna has been an instructor with HWSD for going on 19 years. Katy Brunault, Donna Viau, Carol Slate and Bonnie O'Leary have worked successfully to foster an atmosphere of learning and creativity. Our entire philosophy is based on kindness, respect, inclusiveness and support. HWSD is a technique based school that combines that training with the artistry of dance. . We offer Creative Movement beginning at 3.5 years. Our ballet program begins at age K-12. Students studying ballet have the opportunity to progress into our Pointe program. Our Jazz program begins at Grade 3 thru High School. It includes Classic Jazz technique with elements of lyrical, contemporary, Ailey influences, hip hop and Broadway. The Modern program begins at Grade 3 thru High School and contains, stretch, alignment, influences of Limon, Graham and Humphrey technique. Beg TAP is new this season for Gr. 5-12.. We offer Adult Programs in Power Dance Fitness and Core Strengthening w/additional programs to come. We are a NON competition school. Our focus is on the study and love of Dance. We have a year end performance for all students K-12. Creative Movement will have studio viewings throughout the year. Our in house Dance Company, The Allegro Dance Ensemble is comprised of our advanced students who perform for local events, schools, museums, libraries, festivals and studio work. . Katy Brunault created a FAMILY atmosphere at HWSD and that will continue always. I am honored to know she will continue to teach classes for the ballet program along with our other amazing teachers Bonnie (Modern, P.A.S.S. and Core Strength) and Carol (Ballet and Pointe). Several of our students have gone on to become Dance Majors in college at Bennington, Smith, UMass FIve College Dance, as well as incorporate it into careers in Education, PT and Sports Therapy. HWSD runs the school year with our classes beginning in September until June. During July and August we offer (class cards and drop in) Evening Summer classes age 10-Adult, Art and Dance workshops for little ones, and Intensives for ages 7-18.
